When looking to redeem Marriott Bonvoy Points, we always look out for a unique hotel at a great deal. While looking for a place to stay in Zurich, Switzerland we found the Kameha Grand Zurich, Autograph Collection. For just 30,000 Marriott Bonvoy points, this Autograph Collection was an easy book. While the hotel offers standard rooms, we opted to use one of our Suite Night Awards (SNA) to upgrade to a suite. After doing our research and finding their themed rooms, we knew we wanted to utilize an SNA. On the morning of check-in, we messaged the hotel directly through the app requesting the Space Suite, to which the hotel honored.
Check In
Upon checking in, we were offered 1,000 Marriott Bonvoy Points or a $10 food and beverage credit. As a perk for being a Marriott Bonvoy Titanium member, we opted for the 1,000 points as we feel this is a better deal than the $10 F&B Credit. Since the hotel does not have an elite lounge, we were also offered complimentary breakfast for 2 in the restaurant, or 750 points. We needed to take a train early in the morning, we felt that breakfast would be our best option for a quick morning breakfast. If you are interested in learning about some of the offerings in Marriott Lounges, you can visit our lounge article here, while every lounge is different, it is certainly a perk we value when traveling.
Walking On The Moon
This room was unique in its own way, and the designers of the room did not miss a detail. With carpeting throughout the room that looked like the surface of the moon, to the rocket engine boosters as lights the hotel truly made us feel like we were in space for the night. The room featured three different lighting options. This truly set the mood to contribute to the space theme. The bedroom offered a large picture frame of astronauts on the wall, with a bed that to the eye looked as though it was floating. Behind the bed in a wall cut out was numerous space themed books in different languages, which allowed anyone who wanted to learn a bit more about the moon and space exploration.
With automatic window shades in the bedroom, the frosted glass windows afforded the opportunity to read a bit of radio transmissions from an astronaut. On the other side of the room there was a small cutout which had an oversized tub and connected you directly to the bathroom area. The bathroom was a nice setup, as the tub and vanity area were outside the doors of the shower and toilet which were also separated. The designers also went for a space theme with the doors being a space like reflection and having a lit-up picture of the moon. With one of the largest walk-in closets we have ever seen, there was plenty of space to store what you needed, this also had the moon themed carpet. The living room boasted model rockets above the desk area as well as nice cut out similar to the one in above the bed with additional space books. With a mirror wall, a space age couch and coffee table, sitting in the living room you can only imagine that you were on another planet.
The breakfast buffet in the morning offered a European and American themed buffet, with numerous options for any mood. Prepared by chefs, this breakfast buffet was just what anyone would need to start their day and the food was great not like your typical hotel buffet youโd get in the United States. When booking on hotel websites, keep an eye out for unique suites like this. There are many hotels out there with unique rooms and suites.
