Japanese low cost long haul operator ZIPAIR is launching nonstop service from Tokyo Narita (NRT) to Houston George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH). Flights will operate on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays. The inaugural flight will commence March 4, 2024 with introductory fares starting for as low as $333 each way with premium seats going for approximately $1,300.
Expanding Low Cost Operations
ZIPAIR is filling the void for low cost trans pacific service. Under a similar operating model to what NORSE is doing in Europe, ZIPAIR operates a low cost model charging addon fees for baggage, meals and even pillows. Those seated in ZIPAIR’s premium cabin are subject to the same addon fees. The airline does however, offer streaming entertainment and complimentary Wi-Fi access. ZIPAIR is heavily focused on connecting Japan to Mainline United States. The carrier operates four destinations to the United States; Honolulu, Los Angles, and San Jose. Houston is a rather interesting pick for ZIPAIR, especially since it is a mega fortress hub for Star Alliance member United Airlines. That being said, ZIPAIR sees an opportunity to bring lower fares between Houston and Japan. The route will initially operate on the following schedule:
- Departs Tokyo Narita at 10:00 arriving Houston IAH at 6:45
- Departs Houston IAH at 8:45 arriving Tokyo 1:00PM the next day
- After March 9, 2025 flights will arrive in Houston IAH at 7:45 departing at 9:45.ZIP
