In a Tweet on May 24, 2024 The Boring Company announced their next station on the intricate Vegas Loop, Virgin Hotels Las Vegas. The new route will connect the Virgin Hotels property to the Las Vegas Convention Center. This comes a few years after the first portion of the Vegas Loop opened between Resorts World and the Las Vegas Convention Center. Currently there has been no date set for the station opening.
An Unconventional Means Of Transport
So what exactly is Tesla’s Vegas Loop? Basically, it is a network tunnels connecting various stations throughout the Las Vegas area using semi autonomous Tesla vehicles. Currently the vehicles are operated by a driver however, the vehicles will have full autonomous capability in the future. So far, Clark County and Las Vegas have approved a total of 68 miles of tunnel to be constructed. The Vegas loop looks to connect dozens of casinos on the Vegas strip, sports arenas and Harry Reid International Airport (LAS). This is a rather unique mode of transportation that is not seen in other cities. It does have an advantage over walking which would incur a 25 minute walk time as opposed to a two minute ride in the Vegas Loop. While the grand scale of the Vegas loop is yet to come to fruition, construction at the Virgin Hotels station gives a little bit of hope for this rather unconventional “transit system.”
