Virgin Atlantic has officially joined the SkyTeam Alliance of airlines as of March 2, 2023. Airline alliances such as SkyTeam make seamless integration among partnering airlines possible. You could essentially now fly on Virgin Atlantic’s brand new A330neo and book the ticket through a SkyTeam Alliance airline. This will enhance both Virgin Atlantic and SkyTeam offerings at London Heathrow and Manchester Airport. In addition to their transatlantic joint venture with Delta Air Lines and Air France-KLM, Virgin Atlantic’s entry into SkyTeam awards passengers over 18 partner airlines to choose from. This includes over 1,000 destinations and 170 plus countries. Passengers can conveniently book any SkyTeam member flight on a single ticket, checking in with baggage just once and your baggage will go through to the final destination. Any miles and status earned on a member airline will follow to other partner airlines.
Flying Club members can now earn Virgin Points on all member airlines enhancing their rewards and tier status. Virgin Atlantic silver card members will now be recognized as SkyTeam Elite Members while gold members can now enjoy SkyTeam Elite Plus benefits such as SkyPriority services including expedited baggage handling as well as priority check in and boarding. Now SkyTeam Elite Plus members , Delta One and Upper Class passengers members can enjoy access to the Virgin Atlantic Clubhouse located at London Heathrow in terminal 3.
In a press release on March 2, Virgin Atlantic CEO Shai Weiss commented that “SkyTeam shares a customer first ethos that mirrors our own and our entry today marks an important milestone in achieving our vision to become the most loved travel company.” The CEO of SkyTeam, Patrick Roux stated that, “We are delighted to welcome Virgin Atlantic into SkyTeam taking an already close relationship to new heights.” He also stated that, “codeshare agreements are already in place with Aeromexico and Middle East Airlines and more codeshares (with Virgin) to follow later this year.” This is exciting news for both Virgin Atlantic and SkyTeam as both look toward the future.
