United Airlines, Lufthansa Group and Deutsche Bahn (Germany rail network) are launching a unique new commercial cooperation. Beginning late November 2023, those flying on United traveling between Germany and the United States via Frankfurt Airport can now book integrated rail and airfares with a single ticket. Passengers will have the ability to connect to 25 cities in Germany as part of the new partnership.
A Unique Intermodal Partnership Model
The new cooperation between United Airlines, Lufthansa Group and the Deutsche Bahn is built off the Star Alliance Intermodal Partnership Model which started in July 2022. The model allows seamless transfer to railway, bus or ferry alliance wide. Simply put after getting off the aircraft, passengers can use a single ticket to continue their journey on multi modes of transportation within Germany. United MilagePlus members will be able to collect miles for rail itineraries as part of the combined rail / air tickets. Another added benefit, eligible passengers can now access select Deutsche Bahn lounges! Now accessing Germany via Frankfurt Airport will be simpler with just one ticket allowing for air and rail access.
