Air Canada and United Airlines have announced an enhanced transborder joint business agreement. Through this agreement the two airlines will offer additional capacity and new routes between Canada and the United States starting in summer 2023. This will include a new route between Calgary (YYC) and Washington DC (IAD) and flights between Vancouver (YVR) and Washington DC (IAD). The new, non-stop service between Vancouver and Washington-Dulles will begin June 1 utilizing an Air Canada Boeing 737 Max 8. The non-stop flight between Calgary and Washington-Dulles will begin June 2 utilizing a United Airbus A319. This will expand the 2 airlines codeshare agreement totaling over 80 transborder codeshare routes and over 260 daily flights. The schedules have been optimized to ensure smooth connection’s to either Air Canada or United flights. As these flights are codeshare operated, passengers can earn reward miles with either airline. Eligible Aeroplan or Milage Plus members will be able to enjoy benefits including priority check-in, lounge access, and priority boarding on both airlines. Porter Airlines has announced their expansions throughout Canada and the United States, so it will be interesting to see if Air Canada and United announce additional transborder flights with their new transborder partnership in the near future.
