The Hospitality Show 2023

The Hospitality Show 2023 is set to kick off for the first time in just over a month on June 27, 2023 – June 29, 2023 at The Venetian Resort Las Vegas. We caught up with Alexandra Aldrdige, Marketing Director and Akshar Patel, Senior Director of Events and Strategy with Questex, the event organizer for The Hospitality Show 2023. Aside from some of the industry’s leading executives scheduled for speaker slots, the conference is focused on sustainability, which is a huge focus currently in the hospitality industry and the world.

A hospitality conference like no other

In speaking with Akshar Patel, he outlined how The Hospitality Show 2023 differs from other conferences. Patel stated that this conference strived to make a differentiating point with the content and who is delivering the content. On the main stage Scott Kirby, CEO of United Airlines and Mark Hoplamazian, CEO of Hyatt will share the stage conversing about the challenges and success stories of the airline industry and hotel industry. Patel said “It is really a unique story, and not many industry events have that type of collaboration, but also thought leadership on one stage. That’s one aspect of the content piece, and the other experience that we foresee our attendees taking part in is actually seeing, feeling, hearing, breathing hospitality within our trade show.” To make this possible The Hospitality Show created an opportunity where there’s activations, content and business happening on the trade show floor.

Sustainability – a core objective

The Hospitality Show has a strong focus on sustainability for the conference. The show’s organizers did not miss a detail when it came to sustainability. Patel explained “if you do see carpet in any areas of the show floor, it is either made through recycled materials, or that the carbon is recyclable.” The show even brought their sustainability efforts to the food and beverage aspect of the show.  The hospitality show will not be providing any single use water bottles and partnered with The Venetian on a zero-waste lunch on both Wednesday and Thursday. If there are any food and beverage overages or leftovers, it will either be donated or sent to a local farm to either be composted or used as pig feed.

On the event production side of the conference, roughly 95% of all the onsite graphics will be recycled or be reused. Patel stated “We’ve decided not to print any guides on site and to utilize our app as the epicenter of information on the show floor, but also during the event. Signage is another big area of reduction, and we’re definitely gearing towards reducing signage or using recycled materials for the majority of our signage.”

The Venetian Resort Las Vegas sustainability efforts are spread across the entire resort. The Venetian’s electricity comes from 100% renewable sources. With one of the largest rooftop solar thermal systems in the US the resort can sustainability provide hot water throughout the resort. As Patel explained “when we looked at the opportunity to host an event, in any city or any venue means these important factors being both on the hotel and hospitality side, also prospects from an event organization side really honed in on making sure that wherever we take this event and we keep sustainability as one of our core.”

In their theme of offering differentiating from other hospitality conferences, Alexandra Aldridge explained “We’re going to be running back of house tours that attendees can sign up for, and two of those tours are focused on sustainability. Attendees can sign up to tour the recycling dock where they will see all the waste management evidence being properly sorted and recycled. It’s a nice a way for attendees to feel full circle that they’re a part of something bigger.” Attendees are encouraged to sign up in their portal as space is limited.
