Surf Air Mobility has confirmed their order for 100 Cessna Caravan aircraft. The operator has paid the deposit for the first 20 aircraft with deliveries expected to commence early 2024. The 100+ aircraft order will eventually be powered by Surf Air’s electric or hybrid electric powerplant. Surf Air will eventually make the electric aircraft readily available to new and existing operators. Surf Air Mobility will also be the exclusive provider for electric and hybrid electric engine components for the Cessna Grand Caravan family of aircraft.
Environmentally Friendly Short Haul Routes
Surf Air Mobility will partake in a massive undertaking, converting a robust existing platform, the Cessna Grand Caravan into an electrified aircraft. This will make it possible to quickly convert existing Cessna Grand Caravan orders into electric aircraft. Through a Supplemental Type Certification (STC) the aircraft will remain largely unchanged with the exception being the powerplant which will be either fully electric or hybrid. An interesting Avenue that Surf Air Mobility is exploring is the aircraft as a service program. Financing, aircraft access and priority for electric powertrain conversions will all be a part of the aircraft as a service program. This will make it easier for smaller operators who may have less resources at their disposal compared to a major airline. Both Surf Air and their potential operators will leverage underserved small public use airports throughout the United States utilizing the electrified Cessna Caravan aircraft.
