A Team Effort
Southwest has successfully evacuated 136 dogs and cats off the island of Maui in partnership with Greater Good Charities, Lucky Dog Animal Rescue and Maui Humane Society. A Boeing 737-800 operated the flight from Maui to Portland Oregon. The 136 dogs and cats were placed in secure crates and carriers in the passenger cabin. The inbound aircraft transported emergency pet supplies as well as humanitarian supplies for those impacted. Aboard the flight to Portland a licensed veterinarian flew onboard ensuring the animals were in good health. Following arrival in Portland, follow-up check ups and medical care will be provided prior to putting the animals up for adoption. Southwest Airlines and many other airlines have set up donations and relief supplies to the island of Maui.
