Southwest Airlines seems to be the next airline jumping on the free Wi-Fi bandwagon. Between August 8th through August 14th the airline will test out complimentary Wi-Fi for Rapid Rewards loyalty program holders. No official announcement has been weather or not free Wi-Fi will become permanent. Currently Wi-Fi is available to purchase for $8.

The Rise Of Free Wi-Fi

It seems that more and more airlines are transitioning towards free Wi-Fi. JetBlue started the trend offering complimentary gate to gate hi speed “Fly-Fi”. Then Delta Air Lines followed Suit making Wi-Fi complimentary for SkyMiles members. Shortly thereafter United and American announced their intentions for free Wi-Fi. Now given that Southwest is going through a slew of changed, free Wi-Fi might be on the horizon. Although the airline has not confirmed, it would be a logical next step as they are one of the largest airlines after American, Delta and United. Time will tell if free Wi-Fi is in Southwest Airlines future.
