Siemens Mobility has broken ground on their newest rail manufacturing facility in Lexington, North Carolina. The facility will help Siemens ramp up production on American made passenger railcars including new trainsets for Amtrak. The $220 million facility will begin production in 2024 and will feature robotic welding, 3D printing and carbon neutral buildings.
Increased Demand for Passenger Rail
Siemens Mobility is seeing a high demand for passenger rail equipment from state and privately owned railroads. Privately owned passenger railroad Brightline is utilizing Siemens locomotives and passenger coaches for their expanded service to Orlando. Cities including Cleveland are procuring orders with Siemens for expanded Light Rail Vehicles (LRVs). The new facility will allow for extra manufacturing capacity to meet the growing order book. In addition to increased production capacity, the new facility will bring an estimated 500 permanent American jobs to the North Carolina area.
