European low cost carrier Ryanair has announced orders for 300 new Boeing 737-MAX-10 aircraft. Deliveries are expected to begin in 2027 to 2033. Current list prices are estimated at $40 billion making this the largest order ever placed by an Irish company for American manufactured goods according to Ryanair. Ryanair’s future Boeing 737-MAX-10 aircraft will have 228 seats offering a 21% increase in seats and 20% less fuel burn compared to the 737-800’s currently in the fleet.
Exciting prospects
Ryanair Group CEO Michael O Leary stated, “In addition to delivering significant revenue and traffic growth across Europe, we expect these new, larger, more efficient, greener, aircraft to drive further unit cost savings, which will be passed on to passengers in lower air fares. The extra seats, lower fuel burn and more competitive aircraft pricing supported by our strong balance sheet, will widen the cost gap between Ryanair and competitor EU airlines for many years to come, making the Boeing MAX-10 the ideal growth aircraft order for Ryanair, our passengers, our people and our shareholders.”
Boeing President and CEO Dave Calhoun stated, “The Boeing-Ryanair partnership is one of the most productive in commercial aviation history, enabling both companies to succeed and expand affordable travel to hundreds of millions of people. Nearly a quarter century after our companies signed our first direct airplane purchase, this landmark deal will further strengthen our partnership. We are committed to delivering for Ryanair and helping Europe’s largest airline group achieve its goals by offering its customers the lowest fares in Europe.”
Future fleet strategy
With Ryanair being one of the largest airlines in Europe, they will implement the 737-MAX-10’s alongside their Boeing 737-MAX-8-200’s providing a higher volume of seats and better cost advantage against competing airlines. In addition to the new aircraft, additional job openings are expected for pilots, flight attendants and other support roles. This new order solidifies Ryanair’s continuous growth in Europe while providing affordable fares.
