A new livery design for the upcoming Air Force One aircrafts have been selected by the President of the United States, Joe Biden. The new design will resemble the current aircraft with some slight modifications. The United States Air Force designates the new aircraft as the VC-25B, a heavily modified Boeing 747-8. The new aircraft will replace the Current VC-25A fleet which operates on a heavily modified Boeing 747-200. The older aircraft are seeing rising maintenance costs, parts obsolescence and capability gaps according to the US Air Force. The two new VC-25B aircraft are projected to be operational around 2027 and 2028.
Three Key Differences To The Livery
The United States Air Force has identified three primary differences compared to the outgoing VC-25A’s liveries. The light blue on the new aircraft will be a slightly deeper blue compared to the outgoing aircraft. Furthermore, the engines will be painted a darker blue. The new aircraft will not feature a polished metal section as the aircraft skin alloys do not allow for it. The Air Force previously rendered a red white and blue livery proposed in 2019 by former President Donald Trump. A study concluded that the red white and blue livery would require additional FAA qualification testing due to the added heat on several components. The new VC-25B aircraft will continue the mission of transporting the President, staff and guests safely around the world at a moments notice while having the same level of communications capability and security as the White House.
