Mexico’s state-owned carrier, Mexicana de Aviación has placed an order with Brazilian aircraft manufacturer Embraer for 20 Embraer E2 jet aircraft. The deal consists of 10 E190-E2 and 10 E195-E2 configured in a higher density single class layout. Deliveries are expected to commence second quarter of 2025.
Growing Deliveries In North America
Mexicana will be the first Embraer E2 operator in Mexico and will be the second E2 operator in North America following Porter Airlines. The Embraer E2 family of aircraft has been widely successful in Europe and Asia with over 114 aircraft in service across 14 operators. The Embraer E190-E2 and 195 E2 are based off the highly successful E-Jet family of aircraft. The E2 jets feature a redesigned wing, more fuel efficient geared turbofan engines and a redesigned cabin. While no routes have formally been assigned to the new aircraft, expect Mexicana to take advantage of the E2s efficiency on both domestic and international routes. Priscilla Doro Solymossy, VP Sales and Marketing, Head of Latin America and the Caribbean, Embraer Commercial Aviation, said, “We welcome Mexicana to the E2 family, the first E2 operator in Mexico. Seeing the success and rapid growth Mexicana has achieved since it restarted operations in December 2023 has been remarkable. The airline is already flying to 18 destinations, and has transported more than 115,000 passengers, accumulating more than 3,280 flight hours in this short period, reflecting Mexicana’s commitment to operational excellence and customer service.”
