Metro North Railroad is rolling out their second retro locomotive commemorating the railroads distinguished 40 year history. Retro painted locomotives are portraying the colors of previous railroads that have merged into Metro North. Back in May 19, 2023 Metro North unveiled their first retro locomotive, engine 208 depicting Metro North’s first livery introduced back in the 1980s. The second locomotive engine 201 is painted in defunct railway giant Conrail.
Commemorating Rail History
Leadership at the MTA wanted to commemorate the commuter railroads distinguished 40 year history. Back in March 2023 Metro North received permission from Conrail to apply its logo to locomotive 201. The overall design pays homage to FL-9 locomotives that Conrail operated for the MTA from 1976 to 1982 on commuter rail lines connecting Manhattan to New York and Connecticut suburbs. Metro North President Catharine Rinaldi States that โWe are proud of our history and looking forward to debuting the other Heritage Series-wrapped locomotivesย later this year.โย She hints at the fact that additional retro locomotives are in the pipeline. Currently locomotive 201 can be found on Hudson and Harlem line trains and at Grand Central Terminal in New York City.
