Marriott International has announced on Friday march 10 that they have received regulatory approval from the Mexico Federal Economic Competition Commission for the acquisition of City Express hotels. The intent for acquisition was announced back in October of 2022. Once complete, Marriott will acquire City Express branded properties including City Express, City Express Plus, City Express Suites, City Centro and City Express Junior. Currently Marriott International has 310 properties in the Caribbean and Latin America. The acquisition will add 150 hotels totaling 17,000 rooms across more than 70 cities. This will bring Marriott to over 31 different brands. Upon closing the City Express brands will have the signature “by Marriott” endorsement. As the hotel industry emerges from the pandemic, many of the major hotel brands are expanding their global presence in emerging markets to remain competitive in the expanding industry. Marriott’s acquisition of the express Brand demonstrates just that.
