It is a momentous occasion for both Boston Logan International Airport and Lufthansa as the first Airbus A380 service from Munich touched down on June 1, 2023. To meet the increased demand in travel, Lufthansa will operate the A380 from Boston (BOS) to Munich (MUN) on the A380 in addition to their daily flights to Frankfurt. Boston also sees A380 service from British Airways. Massport has recently undergone renovations to to the international terminal, Terminal E with gates equipped to handle A380 sized aircraft. Expansion is underway to accommodate additional gates and aircraft. Members of the media headed to the Terminal E ramp area to capture this exciting moment for Massport and Lufthansa Group.
A Strategic Move For Lufthansa
Selecting Boston as an A380 destination is no coincidence by any means. Lufthansa looks to operate the A380s to markets seeking increased capacity. In an interview with Dirk Janzen VP Sales, The Americas, For Lufthansa group he reiterated the fact that the A380 will fly to select destinations. This includes New York (JFK), Las Angeles (LAX) and Bangkok (BKK). Boston in particular was selected due to the strong demand from business and leisure travelers alike. International travel is booming with airlines expanding by the day it seems. Lufthansa’s A380 service to Boston exemplifies this.
