Public charter jet service operator JSX looks to the future, an all electric one. On 12/19/2023 JSX announced their intent to acquire 332 hybrid-electric aircraft split between manufacturers Aura Aero, Electra and Heart Aerospace. Deliveries for the hybrid-electric aircraft are currently slated to commence in 2028.
Growing Demand For Electric Aircraft
Airlines across the globe are perusing small electric aircraft to join their fleet. In North America, Air Canada and United Airlines have placed orders for Heart Aerospace ES-30 electric aircraft. As part of JSX large order, the breakdown of electric aircraft will consist of 82 9-seat Electra eSTOL aircraft with 32 firm orders and 50 options, 150 19-seat Aura Aero Era with 50 firm orders and 100 options, and up to 100 30-seat Heart Aerospace ES-30 with 50 firm orders and 50 options.
Adding Service To Smaller Airports
JSX currently operates out of private fixed based operators as opposed to crowded airline terminals. As a result, passengers can arrive to their flight in less than 20 minutes. The hybrid-electric aircraft will enable service into smaller federally funded airports otherwise inaccessible to larger aircraft. According to a recent press release from Businesswire, over 2,000 U.S. airports may see air service from JSX, that would previously be overlooked or inaccessible. Some examples shown in the future route map below include Miami Opa Locka (OPF) to Lakeland Florida (LAL). Some other prospective routes include New Haven (HVN) to Boston Bedford (BED) and Denver Boulder (BJC) to Moab (CNY). Other routes may open up when these eco friendly aircraft begin service in 2028.
