JetBlue is making some shake ups to their route network. The airline has run into recent financial difficulties following the failed merger with Ultra Low Cost Carrier Spirit Airlines. Certain unprofitable routes have recently been cut from the JetBlue network. It is not all doom and gloom however. Six new destinations will be added out of JetBlue’s focus city in San Juan Puerto Rico.
Betting Big In San Juan
San Juan has always been a focus city for JetBlue. Previously, the airline had a handful of nonstop routes to the Caribbean out of San Juan, turning the city into a Caribbean connecting point from mainland United States. In a big move, JetBlue will begin introducing their premium Mint lie flat cabin on flights from New York (JFK) to San Juan (SJU) utilizing Mint configured A321 aircraft. The Mint seats offer a fully flat bed with a closable door. Seats are in a staggered configuration with either two or four seats per row. It is not just San Juan getting the mint treatment, Phoenix and Vancouver will see Mint service out of Boston, New York and Fort Lauderdale. Below are the new routes from San Juan:
- Providence (PVD) starting 10/27/24.
- Westchester County (HPN) starting 10/27/24.
- Santiago (STI) starting 10/28/24.
- Medellรญn (MDE) starting 10/29/24.
- Cancun (CUN) starting 10/28/24.
- St. Croix (STX) starting 12/12/24
