Japan Airlines has placed a large order with aircraft manufacturers Airbus and Boeing for 42 new aircraft. The order consists of 21 Airbus A350-900 aircraft from Airbus, 11 A321neo Aircraft from Airbus and 10 787-9 Dreamliners from Boeing. The introduction of the new aircraft are expected to enter service over a six year period of time beginning in 2027.
Increasing Domestic And International Capacity
Japan Airlines has outlined how they will utilize their new aircraft. On domestic routes Japan Airlines will utilize the 11 ordered A321neos out of Tokyo Haneda (HND) to increase capacity on may routes. Additionally, Japan Airlines recently ordered 21 737 MAX 8 aircraft to replace 737-800 aircraft. On international routes, Japan Airlines will place the Airbus A350-900 and Boeing 787-9 widebody aircraft to North America, Asia, and India. This will help Japan Airlines to meet their ambitious goal of increasing combined capacity of their full service and low cost carrier operation by 1.4 times more. In addition the the announced order, Japan Airlines recently began delivery of the largest member of the A350 family of aircraft, the A350-1000. These new aircraft will allow the airline to grow operations while cutting back on fuel and CO2 consumption, a win win for all.
