Intercontinental Hotel Group (IHG) has officially announced the launch of their first lifecycle net zero carbon hotel. Located in Exeter United Kingdom, the voco Zeal Exeter Science Park in partnership with Zeal Hospitality is slated to open in 2024. The property will be operated under a franchise management agreement with Valor Hospitality. The 142 room property will offer amenities including a restaurant, bar, gym, meeting space and electric car charging points. This is one of many hotel brands that are setting sustainability as a priority.
A Growing Focus On Sustainability
IGH has established a commitment to ensuring that new properties meet the sustainability goals of their Journey to Tomorrow 10-year responsible business plan. A big focus is on reducing waste and conserving water. A key focus of the plan is to incorporate 100% of new build hotels to operate at very low to zero emissions. At the Voco Zeal Exter special consideration has been made regarding sustainable construction as well as reducing waste on the property including water usage. The voco Zeal Exter Science park is just one of many net zero IHG hotels set to open in the coming years.
