One of Florida’s busiest domestic airport will welcome a much needed new terminal. Officials broke ground on the highly anticipated terminal 5 at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) on October 9, 2023. Members at the groundbreaking ceremony included members of the airport, Broward County aviation Department and the Board of County Commissioners. Currently completion of the terminal is expected for 2026.
A Much Needed Expansion For A Growing Airport
Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport serves as a hub and crew base for Allegiant Air, JetBlue Airways, Spirit Airlines and Silver Airways. Southwest Airlines also has a significant presence on the airport. Recently, the airport has gained international service from El Al and Porter Airlines. To meet the increased demand the upcoming terminal five will be equipped with ticketing areas, bag screening, a security checkpoint and five domestic gates. The terminal will connect to the cypress parking garage which houses a consolidated rental car facility. Terminal 5 will be connected through to terminal 4 through multi level pedestrian bridges. Funding for terminal 5 will come from airport bonds, Florida DOT grants and passenger facility charges. Completion of terminal 5 at FLL is estimated for 2026.
