Delta airlines will begin rolling out free WIFI across their aircraft beginning this February. Currently, free WIFI is available to only a select few SkyMiles members and participating aircraft. Delta Airlines released additional details at the CES expo with CEO Ed Bastian in attendance. Delta Airlines will offer the service on more than 700 Viasat-equipped aircraft in 2023, in partnership with T-Mobile. This will see its way to select regional jets including the CRJ-700 and CRJ-900s as well as the ERJ-170 and ERJ175s. International wide body aircraft will be outfitted with the free WIFI in 2024.
Delta Sync
Delta Sync will make its debut alongside the free WIFI. Through this platform passengers will be able to read the New York Times, a personalized Paramount+ platform and even make a dinner reservation through Resy right at 30,000 feet. A rather unique and convenient feature of the platform is the ability to make a food and beverage order right in the inflight entertainment platform.
It will be interesting to see if any other major airlines will follow suit. Currently, JetBlue Airways is the only other airline in the United States that offers a similar complimentary WIFI product. More information and the Delta Airlines press release can be found here.
