Delta Air Lines has been significantly ramping up their operation out of Austin following American Airlines drawdown of their Austin focus city. Delta Air Lines will be adding five new nonstop routes from Austin to Panama City (ECP), Indianapolis (IND), Memphis (MEM), San Francisco (SFO) and Tampa (TPA). The new routes will commence March 2025

Delta’s Austin Strategy

Texas is a rather unique market for Delta. Their main competitors. United Airlines and American Airlines have fortress hubs in Houston and Dallas. Meanwhile Delta Air Lines is investing in Austin as a strategic gateway focus city. Passengers flying from Odessa and McAllen Texas will have connection opportunities to nearly 15 domestic destinations. Delta is even providing international connectivity via Aeromexico to Mexico City and KLM to Amsterdam. In addition to serving every Delta hub, there is nonstop service to leisure destinations such as Nashville, Vegas and Orlando. โ€œDelta has made its commitment to Austin known, and these new routes and the 55 peak-day departures planned for Summer 2025 reaffirm that,โ€ said Joe Esposito, Deltaโ€™s S.V.P. โ€“ Network Planning.โ€ฏโ€œThis is on top of the already 20% seat capacity increase we put into service in April connecting Austin to new destinations in major corporate and leisure markets both within Texas and outside the state โ€” onward throughout our global network.โ€ย It will be interesting to see if Delta Air Lines Austin strategy pans out of fizzles out like American Airlines attempt. Only time will tell.
