Raleigh Durham International Airport (RDU) will soon be welcoming a new international airline and destination. Beginning June 21, 2024 Copa Airlines will operate four times weekly (Monday, Wednesday, Thursday & Sunday) service from RDU to Tocumen International Airport (PTY) in Panama. Flights will be operated using a duel class Boeing 737-800 aircraft.
Rapid Growth In The Research Triangle
Over the past few years Raleigh Durham International Airport has seen significant growth in both domestic and international markets. In 2023, RDU added international service from Air France to Paris, Lufthansa to Frankfurt and Aeromexico to Mexico City. The airport has also seen domestic growth with airline newcomers Avelo Airlines and Breeze Airways. Both American Airlines and Delta Air Lines have a strong presence in RDU with a handful of domestic and international service. Copa Airlines looks to take advantage of the growing market out of RDU. “The introduction of the new Raleigh-Durham route not only promotes cultural exchanges within the Americas but also encourages and deepens tourism and business ties between Latin America and the Research Triangle area. This new route also provides the opportunity for more American tourists to enjoy the wonders of Panama,โ expressed Dennis Cary, Sr. Vice President, and Chief Commercial Officer at Copa Airlines. Flights will commence June 21,2024 departing PTY at 4:20 p.m. and arriving into RDU at 7:46 p.m. local time.
