Commuters on the Hartford Line, and Metro North New Haven Line Danbury and Waterbury branches will ride in style with brand new rail cars from Alstom. The rail manufacturer will supply over 60 single level passenger railcars. Further options include an additional 313 railcars as part of a Connecticut DOT fleet renewal program. Deliveries are expected to begin in 2026.
Improved Comfort And Accessibility.
A part of the agreement calls for specifications that include 125MPH capable rolling stock. The new railcars will feature increased comfort compared to their predecessors. Seats will be configured in a two-on-two layout with foldable tables USB charging, WIFI and wheelchair accessible seating. Large overhead bin racks and a bicycle storage area will make it easier to bring baggage aboard. Real time information on upcoming station stops will be displayed throughout the train. Most importantly the railcars will be ADA compliant and will meet strict FRA safety standards. Similar to Amtrak’s new orders for trains, Connecticut looks to make train travel a more accessible and enjoyable experience.
