The California High-Speed Rail Authority also known as the CHSRA has received over $3.1 Billion in grant money from the Biden Administration for the continued development of the 220 MPH inter-California high speed rail service. The grant was made possible through Federal-State Partnership for Intercity Passenger Rail Program (FSP-National).
An Ambitious Rail Project
The ambitious project will connect San Francisco and Los Angeles using dedicate trackage, right of ways and rolling stock (train cars) that will operate in excess of 200 MPH. This past year the CHSRA has began construction of the first 119 miles of the route including the construction of 10 overpass structures along the route. Similar to high speed rail lines in Asia, the tracks will be dedicated for high speed trains, eliminating grade crossings and the sharing of tracks with slower freight and commuter trains. Along the remaining sections, 422 out of the 500 miles of the route has passed critical environment assessments. In November, a procurement for potential rolling stock including initial interior design was rolled out. With the new grant money, new and exciting progress should emerge in the next couple of years!
