The California High-Speed Rail Authority commonly referred to as the CHSRA has released their shortlist of two potential suppliers for their high speed trainsets. The CHSRA in particular is considering Alstom Transportation Inc. and Siemens Mobility Inc. as qualified bidders. The trains will be capable of reaching speeds of up to 220 mph.
A Future High Speed Passenger Railroad
The state of California is investing heavily on their high speed rail project connecting San Francisco to Los Angles. Segments of the route have already begun construction. As planning has progressed, the CHSRA board of directors approved a RFQ for the trainsets back in August 2023. The contract will comply with Buy America Act including procurement of trainsets as well as a training simulator. โWith this recent federal grant, we are able to move forward with this major step on the project, purchasing trains capable of speeds of more than 220 mph to move passengers here in California in a way that transforms the passenger rail experienceโ said Brian Kelly CHSRA CEO. Currently, the ambitious high-speed rail project is projected to be completed in 2030, bringing the United States up to par with other worldwide high speed rail operators.
