American aircraft manufacturer Boeing is scoring big with large orders announced at the Dubai Air Show. Airlines such as Royal Jordanian who also placed orders with Embraer this year and Royal Air Maroc placed orders for the popular 787 Dreamliner family of aircraft. To much surprise, low cost carrier flydubai placed a large order for their first ever widebody long haul Boeing 787 Dreamliner.
Large And Small Aircraft Orders
It is not just large Boeing aircraft that are receiving new orders. The top selling Boeing 737 MAX met great fanfare at the Dubai Airshow with Turkish Leisure Carrier SunExpress placing a massive order. SunExpress which is a joint venture of Turkish Airlines and Lufthansa placed an agreement for 28 Boeing 737-8 and 17 737-10 models, with options for 45 additional 737 MAX aircraft. This compliments SunExpress previous order for 42 737-8.
Dubai Based low cost carrier flydubai has placed an order for 30 Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners. This will be the first time the airline has placed an order for widebody aircraft. Currently flydubai operates 79 Boeing 737s with a backlog of 137 737s. Stan Deal, president and CEO of Boeing Commercial Airplanes had this to say about the order, “The 787-9 is perfectly suited for the needs of flydubai as it looks to open up longer-range routes and add capacity across its network.” Expect to see new routes added once the aircraft joins the fleet in the next few years.
