Amtrak has quietly implemented a points and cash option for booking Amtrak tickets. Previously Amtrak reservations needed to be made by either using all available points or by paying with cash. With the new program only 100 Amtrak Guest Rewards points are needed to book under the Points & Cash Option.
How Does Points & Cash Work?
Points & Cash is available exclusively on either Amtrak.com or the Amtrak app. It can not be redeemed in stations at the moment. According to Amtrak the process is pretty straightforward. Simply click the “Use Points” filter when on Amtrak’s website or app, than choose your preferred trip and proceed to checkout. At the payment screen you will be able to see your points and cash options. It is worth noting that Points & Cash bookings cannot be changed after booking. However, reservations can be canceled with the points portion of the reservation fully refunded back to member account and the cash portion fully refunded back to original form of payment. This along with new trains and a revamped dining experience will improve America’s national railroad.
