Worcester Massachusetts’s area travelers now have additional rail options out of the commonwealth. Amtrak will begin offering connecting bus service linking New Bedford and Worcester to Providence Station. In providence, passengers can then connect onwards to Acela and Northeast Regional trains to New York, Philadelphia, Washington D.C. and beyond. The bus schedule is strategically timed to offer seamless connection onwards. Only one ticket is needed for the Amtrak Thruway bus service. Tickets to a connecting Amtrak train must be booked in order to utilize the bus service.
Improving Connectivity
Amtrak currently operates Thruway busses on routes throughout the United States particularly on the east and west coast connecting smaller city pairs to larger Amtrak stations. For the Worcester Thruway service, schedules will provide connections for trains in the morning, afternoon and evening. From August to October passengers can connect at Providence to the Seastreak Ferry to Newport Rhode Island. In addition to infrastructure improvements the Thruway bus services aims at improving service on Amtrak’s busiest routes.
