Amtrak will soon be rolling out a new more simplified fare structure across the entire Amtrak network. The new fare structure will launch Fall 2023 bringing with it more affordable and flexible options for passengers. The new simplified fares will reduce the current three fare categories to just two, “Flex” and “Value.” It is worth noting that tickets purchased prior to the new fare structure will still be subject to the existing fare terms and conditions.
Improvements To Amtrak Pricing
Amtrak’s two new simplified fares will include “Flex” and “Value. With Flex fares tickets will be fully refundable if canceled, and can be changed without fees before departure. With Value fares, ticket prices will be at a lower price point compared to flex fares. There are some restrictions however. Value fares will be non changeable and will only receive a 75% refund if canceled. Credit card refunds will now be made back to the original form of payment instead of an electronic voucher. Additionally Amtrak will keep the rock bottom Night Owl fares as low as $5 on select Northeast Corridor (NEC) routes and stations. The Share Fares program where groups of 3-8 people traveling together can receiver discounts ranging from 17% to 60% off. These changes will make travel on Amtrak’s vast national network that much better, now lets just get the new Acela trainsets operational.
