American Airlines is making a welcome change to their onboard Wi-Fi. In the next few weeks American Airlines AAdvantage miles members will be able to redeem miles for Wi-Fi purchases on board. Viasat equipped narrowbody aircraft will be the first aircraft to offer the redemptions.
Growing Connectivity Fleet Wide
American Airlines is the only major airline in the “big three” (American, Delta & United) that does not offer inflight entertainment screens on their narrowbody aircraft. Instead, American offers streaming entertainment with over 1,500 pieces of free content in the portal. The inflight Wi-Fi portal is being revamped with a more accessible interface where users ca go through the purchase process with fewer clicks. While these changes are coming to the narrowbody fleet, American Airlines is investing heavily in their regional fleet. Starting this summer American will begin upfitting 500 regional jets with Intelsat high speed Wi-Fi. These changes will improve the onboard experience in the months ahead.
