American Airlines is doubling down on their European expansion for the busy 2025 Summer travel season. American Airlines will operate nonstop transatlantic service to Athens (ATH), Madrid (MAD), Milan (MXP) and Rome (FCO) as well as service resumption to Edinburgh (EDI). Flights will be operated using Boeing 777-200 and Boeing 787 Dreamliner widebody aircraft.

Expanding American Airlines European Network

American Airlines is investing heavily in their European Network. Compared to United Airlines, American Airlines is lacking in terms of capacity and widebody aircraft availability. American Airlines looks to change that with their latest route announcements. Service from Miami (MIA) to Rome (FCO) as well as Philadelphia (PHL) to Milan (MXP) will give American a substantial footing in Italy. American will serve FCO from six U.S. airports in 2025. Out of Phillideplhia alone, American Airlines aims at serving 17 trans Atlantic routes in 2025. โ€œWe look forward to providing customers more ways to visit their favorite destinations in Europe next summer,โ€ said Brian Znotins, Americanโ€™s Senior Vice President of Network and Schedule Planning. โ€œResuming service to Edinburgh and adding new routes to other popular destinations across the continent will offer customers convenient access from Americanโ€™s industry-leading domestic network to all that Europe has to offer.โ€ Flights can be booked beginning September 9, 2024.
