In many instances, regional jets do not offer the same product found on some larger mainline aircraft. In particular Wi-Fi is an area where regional jets miss the mark. American Airlines looks to change that, adding nearly 500 high speed Wi-fi equipment to American’s dual-class regional jets. Over the next two years, the high new faster Wi-Fi will be integrated into the regional fleet.
Super Fast Low Orbit Wi-Fi
Over the past year American Airlines has made significant improvements to the onboard experience including streaming capability on 100% of their mainline fleet. Passengers can stream movies, tv shows, and music on their personal devices. As such American Airlines does not offer Inflight entertainment screens on their narrowbody aircraft. Now on regional jets passengers will be able to enjoy fast satellite based Wi-Fi from Intelsat. Their Electronically Steered Array (ESA) antennae uses an array of Low-Earth Orbit (LEO) satellites, providing low latency high-speed internet connection making it possible for passengers to stream, browse, check email and even log onto VPN while inflight.
