Alaska Airlines is wasting no time with the Hawaiian Airlines merger. The two airlines are setting their eyes on big route network expansions, as is the case with Alaska’s newest route between Seattle and Seoul. The new nonstop service will commence September 12, 2025. There is a neat catch however, flights will be operated using Hawaiian Airlines Airbus A330-200 widebody aircraft. Tickets can now be purchased on either alaskaair.com or hawaiianairlines.com.
Turning Seattle Into An International Hub
Alaska Airlines has aggressive ambitions to turn their Seattle hub into a international gateway, taking advantage of Hawaiian Airlines long haul fleet. By 2030 Alaska Airlines aims at serving at least 12 nonstop international routes out of Seattle. Already, Alaska has announced Seattle to Tokyo Narita beginning May 12, 2025. “With our robust network, we can connect our guests through our global gateway in Seattle for convenient nonstop service to Seoul and Tokyo, with additional connections to other Asian destinations with our global partners. As we grow our global network from Seattle in the coming years, we’ll announce new international routes to dynamic destinations that we know our guests are going to love to visit” said Andrew Harrison Chief Commercial Officer at Alaska Airlines. Now it will be interesting to see what if anything, will Delta Air Lines do at Seattle following the route announcement as they have been building up Seattle as a west coast gateway over the past few years. Time will tell!
