Air France KLM Group has placed an order with Airbus for 50 A350-900 and A350-1000 long haul aircraft. There are additional purchase rights for additional 40 aircraft if Air France KLM deems necessary. This order is in addition to the current order for 41 A350-900 aircraft. The new deliveries are intended to replace older Airbus A330 and Boeing 777s. The group has also recently placed an order for A350 freight aircraft becoming the launch customer.
Modernizing The Fleet
With the new aircraft on order, Air France KLM Group will become the worlds largest A350 operator. Not only will the aircraft bring the average fleet age down, it will help Air France KLM group to meet their sustainability objectives. The Airbus A350s will consume 25% less fuel compared to older aircraft in the fleet. This is partially due to the fact that the aircraft is constructed with composite materials. The aircraft will be able to use sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), a growing trend among airlines. Once in service passengers will enjoy the latest onboard product in all cabin classes including lie flat suites on future and existing long haul routes.
