Boeing and Air Canada have allot to celebrate to kick off the week. Air Canada has ordered 18 Boeing 787-10 Dreamliner wide body aircraft with options to purchase 12 additional aircraft. Following the order, Air Canada will operate all three variants of the 787 Dreamliner family of aircraft. Currently Air Canada operates 8 787-8 and 30 787-9 variants. Delivery is expected to commence in 2025.
Modernizing The Fleet
In addition to launching an enhanced cross border network with United Airlines, Air Canada is modernizing their fleet replacing less fuel efficient aircraft. The 787-10 order is part of an ongoing fleet renewal program. As part of the program Air Canada will take additional deliveries of Airbus A220 and extra long range (XLR) variants of the Airbus A321neo. According to Boeing, the incoming 787-10 Dreamliners will improve fuel efficiency up to 25% compared to outgoing aircraft exiting the fleet. Not only will the aircraft be more environmentally friendly, the aircraft will be able to carry 336 passengers over 6,300 miles.
