After nearly 60 years the Reno Air Races will host its final air race in September 2023. The airshow’s website released a statement on the homepage stating the following, “Citing the region’s significant growth amongst other concerns, the Reno Tahoe Airport Authority has made the decision to sunset the event. For so many around the world, Reno has become synonymous with air racing and it is hard to imagine the National Championship Air Races gracing any other skies than those in the Sierra Nevada. However, we are committed to finding a new location so that the event can continue.” While no definitive locations have been announced, the Reno Air Racing Association has stated that they will be committed to finding a new location. As for the races this September, tickets are now available at AirRace.org. In addition to the Air Races, airshow performers for the final event will include the A-10C Thunderbolt II Demonstration Team, Air Force Heritage Flight, Navy Legacy Flight, Jim Peitz Aerosports and more. While the future of the Reno Air Races remains unknown, the final airshow is expected to be an action packed sendoff.
