Low cost long haul airline Zipair has announced San Francisco (SFO) as their fourth United States destination providing cheap flights to Japan. Zipair will operate the route using the Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner starting summer of 2023. Zipair is a wholly owned subsidiary of Japan Air Lines that launched in 2020. Zipair’s onboard product can be seen as a hybrid between a full service and low cost airline. Zipair’s 4 Boeing 787 Dreamliners are equipped 18 lie flat seats and 272 economy seats. The seats are not equipped with inflight entertainment screens instead, complimentary streaming WIFI is available. The airline will be the first carrier in Asia to equip their aircraft with SpaceX starlink satellite WIFI. Inflight meals, beverages and shopping are available for purchase inflight through a mobile ordering system. As low cost long haul airlines have been rapidly expanding in Europe such as Norse and Play, it will be exciting to see where else Zipair will expand to in the near future as they take on additional 787 Dreamliners.
