If there is one airline to watch out for this year, it’s Alaska Airlines. Following the Hawaiian Airlines acquisition, Alaska has been going all out on new long haul international routes out of their Seattle hub. As with any airlines growth more planes will be needed. To meet growing demand Alaska Airlines has just placed a massive order with Boeing. The airline has secured orders for 105 of the Boeing 737-10MAX and 5 long haul Boeing 787 Dreamliners. The order includes options for 35 additional aircraft. Orders trickle in from now through 2035.

A Bold Growth Strategy

Alaska Airlines has had quite the glow up this past year especially on the international front. Alaska Airlines intends to utilize the five 787s on order for international growth According to the Alaska Airlines, the 787 order will allow them to grow to 12 long-haul international routes out of Seattle by 2030. “As we transform into the country’s fourth largest global airline, we are proud to introduce a new, global livery for the Alaska brand. The design is a tribute to Alaska’s rich history and a reflection of our bold vision for international growth and our commitment to connect the Pacific Northwest to the world,” said Ben Minicucci CEO Alaska Air Group. Honestly, if Alaska Air Group keeps up their current trajectory, the legacy “big 3” airlines will get a run for their money!
