Just a mere day after rival airline Avelo Airlines announces the upcoming termination of their west coast operations, Breeze Airways is swooping in and adding five new routes out of soon to be former Avelo base Burbank. The new routes are expected to commence in March of 2026.
Picking Up Where Avelo Left Off
It comes as no surprise that Breeze Airways wants a piece of the Pie on the West Coast. Avelo Airlines did fill a niche market operating out of the less congested Burbank Bob Hope Airport (BUR) just outside of Los Angles. They primarily flew to secondary destinations out of Burbank such as Redmond Oregon and Santa Rosa. Breeze Airways will operate similar route pairings out of Burbank including:
- Arcata-Eureka, Ca. operating Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays, starting March 12, 2026.
- Eugene, Ore operating Thursdays and Sundays, starting March 19, 2026.
- Pasco-Tri-Cities operating Wednesdays and Saturdays, starting March 18, 2026.
- Provo-Salt Lake City operating Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays, and Sundays.
- Redmond-Bend, Ore. operating Mondays and Fridays, starting March 13, 2026.
Now one has to wonder if Breeze Airways will find success on these route pairings. Avelo Airlines clearly was not able to operate the route profitably, given the rather abrupt termination announcement. That being said Breeze Airways may have a chance given their slightly different operating model and associated costs. “With an expanded West Coast presence that connects travelers to our broader nationwide network, Breeze’s service will bring even more options and convenience to these underserved communities,” said David Neeleman, Breeze Airways’ founder and CEO. Given that David Neeleman has a successful track record of running airlines, most notably JetBlue, Breeze might just be able to find success out of Burbank.
