Long Islanders will have even more travel options to choose from when flying out of Islip Long Island MacArthur Airport. Avelo Airlines will begin operating three nonstop routes out of MacArthur to Charlotte (Concord), Orlando (Lakeland) and Wilmington (NC). Initial service is expected to commence May 22, 2025.

Growth At Long Island

Long Island MacArthur Airport has seen significant growth over the years. The airport is serving a niche market, exclusively catering to low cost and ultra low cost carriers including Breeze, Frontier, JetBlue, Southwest and now Avelo. Given the airports close proximity to new York city, the airport is a good alternative for both passengers and low cost operators looking for a cheaper option than the more crowded LaGuardia and JFK airports. “We are so excited to welcome Avelo Airlines and value their focus on serving smaller, more convenient airports like Islip’s Long Island MacArthur Airport,” said Town of Islip Supervisor Angie Carpenter. “Avelo will fly from ISP to other easy airport alternatives in Charlotte, Central Florida, and Wilmington, NC. Long Island residents love the convenience of their hometown airport and now they will enjoy a similar customer experience traveling on Avelo to popular destinations while skipping large airports,” she said. The first Avelo Airlines flight out of ISP will depart to Charlette Concord Padgett Regional Airport (USA) beginning May 22, 2025 and will operate on Thursdays and Sundays. Flights to Orlando Lakeland International Airport (LAL) and to Wilmington International Airport will commence on June 12, 2025 also operating on Thursdays and Sundays. Introductory fares can be found for as low as $59 before taxes and add-on fees.
