JetBlue Airways is undergoing quite the brand and identity evolution. This past year the airline introduced a handful of transatlantic destinations and has even rebranded the exterior of their aircraft. On September 19, 2024 JetBlue announced their first ever airline lounges opening at New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) Terminal 5 and Boston Logan International Airport (BOS) Terminal C. The lounges are expected to open in late 2025.
A Focus On Premium Offerings
It is no surprise that JetBlue is opening premium lounges. Their international Mint lie flat product while competitive, did not offer lounge access unlike legacy airline competitors. The new lounges will offer Mint passengers and Mosiac elite members lounge access. This is part of JetBlue’s JetFoward strategy which targets premium passengers and product offerings. As part of this premium focused approach, JetBlue will launch a premium credit card awarding lounge access. “Customers have asked for a JetBlue lounge for years and we can’t wait to unveil our take in New York and Boston,” said Marty St. George, president of JetBlue. “Lounges have become an essential offering for the growing numbers of customers seeking premium experiences, and JetBlue’s lounges will further boost the value of our TrueBlue loyalty program as we expand our portfolio of JetBlue credit cards.”
Lounge Access
It appears that JetBlue will focus lounge access to their most loyal passengers with elite status as well as premium credit card holders. Access will be available for the following passengers:
- Holders of a new premium JetBlue credit card
- TrueBlue Mosaic 4 members
- Transatlantic Mint customers
If 2024 demonstrated one thing in the aviation industry, it is that airlines need to evolve to survive. Many airlines are changing their operating model. For example, Southwest Airlines introduced assigned seating and Spirit Airlines introduced blocked middle seats in select rows. JetBlue’s decision to introduce lounges will help their footing in the competitive and evolving landscape that airlines are faced with.
