On July 24,2024 Avelo Airlines has announced their largest expansion yet spanning over 18 new routes including two international destinations. As part of the ultra low cost carrier’s latest expansion, duel operations will be set up in Lakeland Florida and Hartford Connecticut complimenting Orlando (MCO) and Tweed New Haven operations. Introductory fares can be found for as low as $52.
Expanding Operations In Connecticut
Connecticut has played a pivotal role in Avelo Airlines growth. In 2021 operations commenced in New Haven with initially three aircraft based on the field primarily operating routes to Florida. Since then there are now over 26 nonstop destinations out of New Haven supported by five Boeing 737 aircraft on the field. The biggest setback at Tweed New Haven though is the small terminal and lack of parking for both aircraft and passengers. This has constrained operations at the Airport. To meet the growing demand in Connecticut Avelo Airlines will begin setting up shop at Hartford, Connecticutโs Bradley International Airport (BDL). Initially two aircraft will be based on the airport supporting 7 new routes including two international routes. Avelo Airlines estimates 50 new jobs to be created following the opening of the Bradley International Airport aircraft and crew base. The new routes include:
- Cancun, Mexico (CUN)
- Charlotte/Concord, NC (USA)
- Daytona Beach, FL (DAB)
- Houston, TX (HOU)
- Montego Bay, Jamaica (MBJ)
- Orlando/Lakeland, FL (LAL)
- Wilmington, NC (ILM)
Growth In The Greater Orlando Area And Beyond
Much of Avelo Airlines business model revolves operating out of less congested secondary airports. This trend is highly popular in Europe where ultra low cost operators primarly commence operations out of. In the United States, Allegiant Airlines has primarly based their entire operation out of secondary airports. Avelo Airlines is operating a similar model, adding new routes out of secondary airports such as Wilmington Delaware or Santa Rosa California. In Orlando Avelo Airlines aims at serving the less congested Lakeland International Airport (LAL). A single Boeing 737 will be based on the field supporting nonstop service to Atlanta (ATL), Boston / Manchester, N.H. (MHT), Charlotte / Concord, N.C. (USA), Philadelphia / Wilmington, Del. (ILG) and San Juan, Puerto Rico (SJU). Outside of Orlando, Avelo Airlines is commencing service out of Charlotte’s secondary Airport Concorde Padgett Regional Airport (USA) to Albany, N.Y. (ALB), Boston / Manchester, N.H. (MHT), Philadelphia / Wilmington, Del. (ILG) and Rochester, N.Y. (ROC). Avelo Airlines Founder and CEO Andrew Levy said, โThe expansion we are announcing today is
the most substantial in our airlineโs three-year history. Aveloโs purpose is to Inspire Travel and the addition of 18 new routes and our first two international destinations will make getting where our Customers want to go easier than ever. Couple this with our industry-leading reliability and itโs no surprise over five million people have chosen to fly Avelo. Adding more airplanes and destinations, I am very excited about the momentum and growth we are seeing across our business. And with three consecutive profitable quarters, Avelo is positively positioned for even more growth in the future across our network.โ
