Delta Air Lines elite SkyMiles members are in for a special treat when flying out of Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport. Delta Air Lines and Porsche are teaming up with their new Porsche 918 Spyder to transport elite SkyMiles members to their next flight. The hybrid sports car is a pre-production prototype and has been loaned to Delta’s Elite Services Team for a two week period.
A Very Special Surprise
While deplaning select elite SkyMiles members will notice an Elite Service Ambassador waiting for them in the jetway. The passenger will be held on a sign by the ambassador. Traditionally this service whisks the passenger to their next gate in a Porsche Cayenne crossover. Celebrating the 12 year partnership between Porsche and Delta, the two companies teamed up bringing the ultra rare pre-production 918 Spyder Prototype to the fleet. For a two week operating period, the sports car will transport elite SkyMiles members alongside the Porsche Cayenne.
A Focus On Sustainability
The sports car represents more than just a sleek fast machine. It represents the two companies goal for more sustainable transportation. The Porsche 918 Spyder can operate solely on electric power. This compliments Delta Airlines push for electric ground vehicles at key airports. So far, in Boston and Salt Lake City nearly 100% of key ground vehicles such as baggage loaders, push back tractors and catering trucks are fully electric. The Porsche 918 Spyder will fit right in to Delta’s sustainable electric ground fleet.
Be On The Lookout
If arriving into Atlanta, be on the lookout when taxiing to the Gate for the Porsche 918 Spyder. In a press release, Delta hints at the fact that the 918 Spyder may make an appearance at another Delta Hub later this year. In addition to opening new expanded Sky Clubs the Porsche 918 enhances the passenger experience for a select group of frequent fliers.
