How Long Does it Take Between Dulles Airport & Reagan National?


With the new silver line extension including Washington Dulles International Airport, it now offers travelers the ability to get between Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD) and Ronald Reagan National Airport (DCA) in Washington DC.

Airlines such as United Airlines, sometimes offer a connection between IAD & DCA requiring the traveler to switch airports. Before the silver line extension opened this week, there were not many options for the traveler to navigate between the two airports. 

We were onboard the inaugural train out of Washington Dulles International Airport Station to time exactly how long it takes to get between Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD) & Ronald Reagan National Airport (DCA).

When traveling from IAD to DCA:

-Board the Silver Line towards Largo

-Without delays and after about 46 minutes arrive at Rosslyn Metro Station

-Proceed to the bottom level and board the blue line towards Huntington

-Arrive at National Airport Metro Station

Question: How long does it take to get from Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD) to Ronald Reagan National Airport (DCA)?

Answer: Total trip time: 1 hour 3 minutes

When traveling from DCA to IAD:

-Board the Blue Line towards New Carrollton

-Without delays and after about 13 minutes arrive at Rosslyn Metro Station

-Proceed to the top level and board the silver line towards Ashburn

-Arrive at Washington Dulles International Airport Station

Question: How long does it take to get from Ronald Reagan National Airport (DCA) to Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD)?

Answer: Total trip time: 1 hour 3 minutes
