Salt Lake City International Airport (SLC) plays a vital role in Delta Air Lines domestic and international route network. Over the past few years both the airport and airline have partnered in providing a complete rebuild of the airport terminal facilities, mainly those serving Delta and Delta Connection carriers. Concourse A, the newest constructed concourse on the airport opened in September 2020. In a recent press release, Delta aims to operate 230 peak daily flights spanning to over 90 destinations globally. Additional frequencies are expected to Austin (AUS) Nashville (BNA) and Philadelphia (PHL). In order to meet the expected demand, Delta Airlines is adding 22 new gates. 19 restaurants are expected to accompany the new gates. All gates are expected to be operational October 2023.
Delta Air Lines extended lease agreement
Earlier in the year, Delta and Salt Lake City extended the current lease terms to 2044 adding an additional 11 gates to the agreement. Over $12 billion of investments from the airline have been put into the development of the expansions. Delta Airlines is not the only carrier who recently extended their lease and wishes to expand gate capacity. American Airlines also extended their lease agreement at their Dallas Fort Worth hub expanding gate capacity as well. Summer is rapidly approaching, so airlines are doubling down at their hub airports increasing gate space and capacity to meet the increased demand.
